I'm a fairly new convert to the marvel that is an iPhone. I now wonder how I ever did without it and one of the reasons I love it so much is its amazing ability to entertain the children! I was on the lookout for some great children's apps to download - but I also wanted something educational so that I didn't feel too guilty about subdueing them with technology. Therefore it seemed like perfect timing when Luma Creative asked me to review their Magic Belles: Magic Music app.
The Magic Belles are six magical, musical fairies who look after lifes special wonders. They offer children an introduction to the wonderful world of music and the app is designed to appeal to girls between the ages of 3-6.
My chief app tester was my 4 year old daughter and her assistant was her 2 year old brother!
My daughter quickly became a huge fan of the Magic Belles. The app was very simple to use and she quickly got the hang of it. Each Magic Belle has their own mini game such as colouring in mushrooms from paintpots (my daughters favourite) or watering the flowers and watching them grow. They were really quite enchanting and you did feel like you were entering a magical world. We all loved the design and the Belle's were very cute and appealling to children.
I loved the music and both of my children loved the little extras which came in the form of cute animal that moved when you tapped them. My son really enjoyed seeing the "babbit" (rabbit) hopping along and I thought that the kissing lovebirds were very sweet.
As an adult I also appreciated the fact that the games were educational and you could talk about them with your child. For example there is a joining the numbers game which helped my daughter with her number recognition and we talked about music and musical notes and talked about the guitar that one of the Belles was playing. This was a lovely app and one that both my children will hopefully be kept amused by for a long time!
Magic Belles is available for £1.49 from the App Store on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch or via this link
